This next winter issue of The Ember Journal has a bit of a different feel from holiday-focused magazines – the theme is one to carry through the entire season from Advent to Mardi Gras. Content to ground you in a full December, to sit with you in January, and to encourage you through February. We take it to heart when so many of our readers share that the Journal sits on their bedside all season, or is in their bag as they go to the coffee shop, adoration, or a friend’s home. This theme of SLOWNESS reflects that.
There are lots of vague or empty sentiments you can find about slow living. You will not find that in this winter edition of The Ember Journal. The writers of this issue deserve an award for this inspiring collection, and this is an issue I will absolutely be taking to prayer, personally.
- Allison writes on the experience of detachment from the digital world (not for a weekend, but for life): the practicals, the struggle, the transformation.
- Ellens talks about the how-to of building a natural fiber wardrobe with intention over time.
- Natalie bridges the parasympathetic nervous system with contemplative prayer.
- Janet goes into the expansive topic of light informing our rhythms in winter.
- Louisa & Lizzy share about their venture, Home of Leisure, and how anybody can implement this life-changing habit.
As always, there is so much more. Original recipes for Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, and those long winter days. An art meditation and a book review to inspire your creative side. Health tips on holistic nourishment in winter.
A Journal Meant to Be Kept
Printed on beautiful paper and intentionally free of advertisements, The Ember Journal is made to remain — on your coffee table, tucked into a basket beside your bed, or open on your kitchen counter as you move through your day.
